Project Finca Boyal – Spain

Project Finca Boyal – Spain

From 2004 to 2012, we helped transform the Finca Boyal greenhouse operation in Spain into a modern, efficient, and certified producer for the European market. Originally built in the late 1990s by Belgian investors, the 9.75-hectare site faced major regulatory and operational challenges. We joined during the critical restart phase, working closely with the new owners, Scherpenhuizen B.V., to rebuild and rebrand the company under the name Finca Boyal S.L.

Key Achievements and Contributions:

  • Business Restart and Management
Led the transition by drafting a full business plan, taking over administrative responsibilities, and quickly learning Spanish to manage local labor, banking, and legal affairs effectively.
  • Crop Production
Successfully transitioned the greenhouse to the production of high-quality red, yellow, and green sweet bell peppers. Implemented standardized planting times and pruning strategies to maximize yields and quality.
  • Certification and Quality
Achieved GlobalG.A.P. certification, allowing produce to be marketed across Europe, meeting the highest international standards for food safety and sustainability.
  • Labour and Cost Efficiency
Introduced a strict labor budgeting system, improving operational efficiency while maintaining high-quality production standards.
  • Pest and Disease Control
Managed High pest pressures through effective Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices, minimizing chemical use while safeguarding crops.
  • Transition to Cucumber Production
In the final two years, successfully transitioned the facility to high-wire cucumber production. A new grower was trained and supported until full stability was achieved, marking the project's successful completion.

Through strategic management, agronomic expertise, and close collaboration with ownership, we revitalized Finca Boyal into a stable, efficient, and compliant greenhouse operation ready for long-term success.
